Background Of The Study

Agbada (2019) maintained that education is the constant restructuring of experience, which is in line with the more extended statement made by Plato, who says that by education is the major channel for the transmission of knowledge and ideas, as well as for the propagation and conservation of values in the society. Education is also defined as the process by which the members of any society are made to acquire knowledge and develop skills or abilities and character, which are necessary for an active, effective, and useful life and to make meaningful contributions toward the building of their society. This definition of education has been used in a number of contexts (Oguntimehi ,2018).

According to Shaidu (2020), education is a system that enables a society to prepare its citizens for responsible citizenship, humane attitudes, and sound thinking within the context of the organized society that is of concern to it. This preparation occurs through the use of curriculum-guided and service-supported instruction (i.e. the system trrat host society). Based on this concept, education may be seen as a system that requires certain resource inputs, has certain internally goal-directed processes, and produces certain outputs that are anticipated. Private organizations were responsible for bringing Western education to Nigeria.

According to Adelouro (2022), the first time it was used was on the south coast of Nigeria. This occurred when Portuguese merchants who had established trading posts in Lagos, Benin, and Brass invited their Catholic home mission to establish schools for the sons of Obas, chiefs, and influential citizens in the palaces of the Obas of the aforementioned towns. These schools were located in Brass. This first effort to introduce western education in Nigeria did not succeed in reaching the interior of the country, and subsequent attempts to revive it were ultimately unsuccessful due to inter-tribal warfare and the transatlantic slave trade. This initial effort was made at some point between the years 1515 and 1552. (Adelouro, 2022). It is essential to take into account the fact that, ever since the dissemination of western education in 1842 and the beginning of the development of primary schools, As a result of the presence of Christian missions in Nigeria, the relatively small number of educated Nigerians started lobbying for the development of secondary schools.

The reason for this is that they desired for their children to receive some kind of post-primary education that would qualify them to work as intermediate civil servants, and that would also qualify them to gain admission into higher institutions of learning, where they could eventually become doctors, lawyers, engineers, and so on. The reason for this is that they wanted their children to be able to work as intermediate civil servants. As a result, they were eligible for positions of authority inside the country (Adelouro, 2022). Therefore, this study will look into  the growth of private school and the efforts on the development of education.

Statement Of The Problem

Education equips students with the information and abilities they need to improve themselves and their country on social, economic, and political fronts. It is true that socioeconomic variables, such as family income level, parents' level of education, race, and gender, all have an impact on the quality and availability of education as well as the capacity of education to enhance one's living conditions. Independent schools are another name for non-state institutions that fall under the category of private schools (Gbamanja, 2019). They are not run by any of the local, state, or federal governments, and as a result, they maintain the right to choose skilled Science Subjects instructors who can handle the subject matter in an effective and efficient manner for the benefit of their pupils. Instead of relying on mandatory taxation through public (government) funding, private schools get their funding in whole or in part from the tuition paid by their students; however, students at some private schools may be able to get a scholarship, which makes the cost cheaper, depending on a talent the student may have, such as an art scholarship, a sport scholarship, an academic scholarship, or any number of other types of scholarships (Nwagu, 2017). The tuition at private schools often costs far more than that of comparable public institutions.. Therefore, the study will examine  the growth of private school and the efforts on the development of education.
